2nd Rung On The “Ladder Of Migration

Investor (Provisional) (Subclass 162)

This visa is for investors/business people from overseas who are willing to invest funds in a designated investment in Australia for at least four (4) years and to maintain the investment in Australia after the four-year term of their investment expires. With this visa you can make a designated investment.

The visa applicant must be less than 45 years old, have a vocational level of English and have an overall successful record of eligible investment or qualifying business activity. The key requirements of this visa are:

•  Designated Investment - At the time of the decision you have made a government approved Designated Investment of A$1,500,000 in a state or territory of Australia .

•  Total Assets - The net value of your (or your and your spouse's combined) assets was at least A$2,250,000 for the two fiscal years immediately before you apply.

•  Business career - For at least one of the five fiscal years immediately before you apply:

•  You have maintained direct involvement in either managing a qualifying business in which you (or you and your spouse together) had an ownership interest of at least 10% of the total value of the business or
•  You maintained direct involvement in managing your (or you and your spouse's combined) eligible investments. The total value of that investment was at least A$1,500,000.

•  You have a total of at least three years experience of direct involvement in managing one or more qualifying businesses or eligible investments.

•  You have demonstrated a high level of management skill in relation to an eligible investment or qualifying business activity.

 

State/Territory Sponsored Investor (Provisional) (Subclass 165)

This visa is the second type in this category. As with visa subclass 162, this visa is for investors/business people from overseas who are willing to invest funds in a designated investment in Australia for four years. The key requirements of this visa are:

  1. You must be less than 55 years old (except where the proposed business will be of exceptional economic benefit to the region);
  2. You must be sponsored by an appropriate regional authority of a State or Territory government;
  3. Designated Investment - At the time of the decision you made a government approved Designated Investment of at least A$750,000 in a state or territory of Australia ;
  4. Total Assets - value of your (or your and your spouse's combined) assets was at least A$1,250,000 for the two fiscal years immediately before you apply.
  5. Business career - For at least one of the five fiscal years immediately before you apply:

    •  you have maintained direct involvement in either managing a qualifying business in which you (or you and your spouse together) had an ownership interest of at least 10% of the total value of the business; or
    •  you maintained direct involvement in managing your (or you and your spouse's combined (eligible investments, the total value of which was at least A$750,000;

  6. You have a total of at least three years experience of direct involvement in managing one or more qualifying businesses or eligible investments.
  7. You have demonstrated a high level of management skill in relation to an eligible investment or qualifying business activity.

 

Investor Retirement (Temporary) (Subclass 405)

This visa is designed for overseas self-supported retirees who are 55 or older, have no dependants, who want to reside in Australia during their retirement years and are able to make a significant long term financial investment in Australia . The visa is temporary and will not lead to Australian permanent residence or citizenship.  However, there is an option to apply for further Investor retirement visas which will allow the applicant to stay for a further four years.  Applicants must be sponsored by an Australian State or Territory government agency (other than New South Wales or Australian Capital Territory ).

Key requirements of this visa are:

1. Assets - You must have assets valued at least A$750,000 (A$500,000 if you intend to live in regional Australia ) which have been held for 2 years prior to lodgment of application. These assets will enable you (or you and your spouse) to meet initial settlement and ongoing costs of living in Australia .

2. Income - You (or you and your spouse combined) must have access to a minimum net income of A$65,000 (A$50,000 if you intend to live in regional Australia .)

3. Designated Investment - You must be able to make a designated investment of A$750,000 in your name (or your name and your spouse's name), in the State or Territory in which you have been sponsored (A$500,000 if you intend to live in regional Australia)

4. You and your spouse, if applicable, will only be able to work up to 20 hours per week while in Australia.
